PLANT OF THE MONTH: LIBERTIA

Libertia paniculata

This lovely little number often finds its way into my planting schemes, be it a contemporary, cottage or native garden...I like its versatility.

With strappy green leaves to about 50 cm high, Libertia paniculata provides year-round interest in semi-shade, but with the arrival of Spring you'll find these beautiful and abundant white-blooming flower spikes reaching out above the foliage...becoming almost luminous at night.

Easy to propagate by division, just dig up the clump, carefully drive a spade through it dividing it in two...and if large enough, repeat. Pop these free plants in other areas of your garden, or pot them up as gorgeous gifts.

Use Libertia (aka Grass flag) in small groups in your garden, as informal, low hedging along a path, in containers, or enjoy them indoors by including them in cut flower arrangements.
